KAP SLAP, gotta love him

1. My internet at home is super dodgy, so analyzing the charts will have to wait until I'm back at school.
2. I'm sorry I haven't been updating anything lately....again the internet is mostly to blame.

Now, for my post. So anyone who has been checking the college music scene like me, has noticed Kap Slap is everywhere. Well, lucky for me, and every other Lehigh student, Kap Slap, or as others know him, Jared, is one of our very own. DML (Dirty Mexican Lemonade) has called him a mashup guru, and frankly, I agree. This kid has major talent, and an awesome ear for putting together songs. He delivers unlikely mashups and is up and coming. If you don't frequent DML, which you should, you have definitely heard him on Fratmusic.com. His beats have been up for a while, and I thought it was about time I paid him tribute. Not only is he a master with mixing up the songs, but the kid is one of the nicest boys I know. Congrats kiddo, you're blowing up. As an artist: REPEAT IT, CRANK IT

UK CHarts 11/28- 12/4

#1 “Heroes” by the X Factor Finalists I think I’m getting soft because this song made me tear up. No joke, it pulled at my heart strings. Because X Factor isn’t very influential in America, I don’t see this blowing up on our side of the pond, but it was beautiful nonetheless. REPEAT IT

#4 “Thinking Of Me” by Olly Murs One thing is for sure, this is no “Please Don’t Let Me Go”, but in the typical Olly Murs style, it has a very cute and sweet sound. CRUISE IT

#25 “Do It Like A Dude” by Jessie J I. Love. This. Song. Singing one for the girls, always has my vote. It has a heavy beat, and she has a cool sound. She has a bit of Nicki Minaj sound, but there’s no convincing the two. YOU GO GIRL, DO IT (LIKE A DUDE GIRL), REPEAT IT, CRANK IT

#29 “Gillian McKeith” by Brett Domino Don’t take this song seriously, it’s great for a laugh and pokes fun at Gillian McKeith the nutritionist. If you’re looking for a laugh this is the jam for you. BUST A GUT TO IT

#33 “More” Usher This man consistently delivers. I definitely more, that’s for sure. This is pretty inspirational song; put it on your gym playlist PUMP IRON TO IT, REPEAT IT

#37 “Doncamatic” by Gorillaz Featuring Daley is definitely a new sound for the Gorillaz. I’m a fan though. The beginning sounds like it should be in Mario Kart or Mario Party. CRUISE IT

#38 “Let It Be” by The Beatles If you don’t like this song, there is something seriously wrong with you (offense intended). I like this Beatles push by iTunes because it’s bringing back some great songs (although they were never really gone). CRY IT, REPEAT IT

#40 “Better Than Today” by Kylie Minogue has an 80’s vibe, and Kylie Minogue delivers. It sounds like the music my mom used to do aerobics to, but in a good way. Like the lyrics of the song say, “FEEL IT, SEE IT, KNOW HOW MUCH YOU NEED IT

Billboard Charts 11/20

#8  “Teenage Dream” by The Glee Cast Glee hardly ever lets me down. I’m still loving this song, and I don’t see myself putting it on the back burner at point in the near future. REPEAT IT

#12 “The Time (Dirty Bit)” by The Black Eyed Peas Hmmm I have a sense of déjà vu, maybe because I just blogged about this song when it debuted on the UK charts. Black Eyed Peas are killin it with the dub-step. REPEAT IT

#57 “The Show Goes On” by Lupe Fiasco. I do not hate saying I told you so; I love it; I live for it. REPEAT IT (if you aren’t already repeating it)

#67 “Down On Me” Jeremih Featuring 50 Cent This jam definitely has a smooth sound. The lyrics are a little raunchy, but I wouldn’t expect anything less. CRUISE IT

#70 “Hello World” by Lady Antebellum Country

#76 “What If” by Jason Derulo This music video is a little more serious than I had anticipated, but the song is pretty sentimental. Sniffle, sniffle GRAB A TISSUE FOR IT

#94 “Make A Movie” by Twista Featuring Chris Brown This song is absolutely what you think it’s about. Not sure how I feel about the sound of it. PONDER IT

UK CHarts 11/21- 11/27

#1 “Love You More” by JLS When I listen to this song I think of little girls screaming this song and crying with posters. It’s a very endearing song, maybe a little too sweet for my taste, but sweet. TONE IT DOWN

#6 “Like A G6” by Far East Movement Featuring Cataracs and Dev I’m absolutely thrilled to see this song experiencing the success it has experienced. For me, it started as a new college song last February or March, and since then it has blown up. Added bonus, got to see the Cataracs live last week, it was awesome. My goal is to fly on a G6 while listening to this jam. REPEAT IT, CRANK IT, NEVER GET SICK OF IT,

#10 “Safe” by Westlife What is it with the mushy love songs? I feel like I should whip out my lighter and start swaying. PONDER IT

#18 “What’s My Name” By Rihanna Featuring Drake O Na Na, your name is Rihanna, and I like this song(a). I tried, but clearly being a lyricist is not in my future and there’s a reason why we let Rihanna make the music, and why I listen. This song is sick, and it jumped over to the UK really quickly. A strong pairing like Rihanna and Drake is bound to deliver. REPEAT IT, CRUISE IT

#22 “Game Over” by Tinchy Stryder Featuring Chipmunk The only youtube videos I could find of this song included a long list of big names including Giggs, Professor Green, Tinie Tempah Devlin, and Example. I think the song’s heavy beat is sick, but that’s about all it brings to the table. I feel like seeing this song live would be more exciting. PONDER IT, SEE IT LIVE?

#38 “Just Drive” by Alistair Griffin This song has a very ballady song. Somehow it has some country elements, but it deter me from liking it. I feel like this should be in trailer for a Nikolas Sparks book-turned-movie. For the sake of the title, CRUISE IT, but actually CRY IT

#40 “Hey Jude” by The Beatles This song was a little unexpected to see on the charts, but with the new box set release on iTunes, and the general Beatles campaign on iTunes it kind of made sense. I mean the song, is famous for a reason, it’s an awesome song. RETRO IT

Everyone's Starry Eyed, Sayin Yeah

I thought "Starry Eyed" by Ellie Goulding was alright, not my favorite song by her, but good enough. Then the jakwob remix came out, and the song got the dub-step experience and it became a whole other animal. It was a heavy hitting monster; an out-of-body experience. Right now I'm sitting in Philly's airport, perusing my favorite music sites and I saw the unthinkable, the holy grail, the dub step version of "Starry Eyed" mashed up with "Say Yeah" by Wiz Khalifa (which was borrows the background from "Better Off Alone" by Alice Deejay. Dirty Mexican Lemonade posted LJC spin on these two songs, and the heavens open up and smiled upon us. You can listen and download this masterpiece at the following link: http://dirtymexicanlemonade.com/2010/11/23/everyones-starry-eyed-sayin-yeah/
Guess I found what I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving. Thank you DML, thank you LJC
REPEAT IT, CRANK IT, BE THANKFUL FOR IT (seriously)

Billboard Charts 11/13

#23 “Felt Good On My Lips” by Tim Mcgraw Country

#51 “Sleazy” by Ke$ha is  a little disappointing, especially after the success of her other singles. Also, it’s a little raunchier than I would like, but Ke$ha will be who she is, she’s made that clear. PONDER IT

#56 “Roman’s Revenge” by Nicki Minaj Featuring Eminem. Oh Nicki, you’re so rhymes are so witty. I recently heard rumor that Wayne writes all her material, but I’m choosing not to believe that, I love her too much to believe it. REPEAT IT

#61 “Bon, Bon” by Pitbull I may not be able to understand a word of this song, but I do appreciate the incorporation of “We No Speak Americano” TRANSLATE IT PLEASE

#67 “Somewhere With You” by Kenny Chesney Country

#70 “Get Back Up” by T.I. Featuring Cbris Brown judging by the title alone this song couldn’t be more fitting for these two artists. I like how smooth the song sounds. CRUISE IT

#74 Lo Mejor De Mi Vida Eres Tu By Ricky Martin Featuring Natalie Jimenez roughly means the best of my life it is you who are (thank you free translator’s website). I don’t know what they’re singing, but the song has a really sweet happy sound. ME GUSTA IT

#86 “Sick” by New Hollow. You wouldn’t know by their sound, but New Hollow is a band of high school boys. I’m not wild about the song, but I’m definitely impressed by their talent. The music video seems pretty low budget, but the premise is really sweet. IMPRESSED BY IT

#89 “Voices” by Chris Young Country

#93 “Don’t You Wanna Stay” by Jason Aldean With Kelly Clarkson Country

#97 “Bullet In The Gun” by Toby Keith Country

#98 “The Big Bang” by RockMafia has a very Maroon 5 sound. The song is seductive, and the video is mysterious. I like the rock sound of it, and how the song incorporates whistling. Did I mention Miley Cyrus is in the video?  REPEAT IT, WHISTLE IT

UK Charts 11/14- 11/20

#2 "The Flood" by Take That has a very dramatic feeling. I think what’s really most exciting about the song is that it’s concrete proof that Take That is really back, and thank goodness for that. The chorus is very ballady, CRY IT

#4 "Shine a Light" by McFly Featuring Taio Cruz. I’m not going to lie, at first I thought a girl was singing. I’m a little disappointed, I was expecting the addition of Taio Cruz to really pack the punch in this song, and I the song has a bit of a boring song. PONDER IT

#11 "The Time (Dirty Bit)" by The Black Eyed Peas uses “Time Of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes from Dirty Dancing. Obviously, the Black Eyed Peas add their party lyrics, remixed electronic sounds, and heavy beats. This may not replace “I Gotta Feeling”, but it definitely has the potential to be the new party song. CRANK IT, HAVE THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE TO IT

#12 Gotta Be Somebody" by Shayne Ward puts an interesting song on the Nickleback hit. I think if you don’t like Nicleback, you may still like this song. It’s a lot less pop, and much more pop. It’s still just as dramatic. CRY IT

#13 "Raise Your Glass" by P!nk. Ugh, I’m trying not to let my bias get in the way, but I don’t like P!nk as an artist, so I don’t like her sound, and don’t like her songs. Sorry. SKIP IT

#39 "Your Song" by Ellie Goulding This is by far my favorite song this week. I don’t know why there are so many new covers of old songs, but thank goodness there are. Ellie Goulding puts her touch to Elton John’s legendary “Your Song”, and the soft sounds are absolutely beautiful. REPEAT IT, CRY IT

Friday, November 19, 2010

"You Are Not A Robot" Hoodie Allen

"You Are Not A Robot" by Hoodie Allen Featuring Marina & The Diamonds. This song takes Marina and the Diamonds original song "I am not A Robot", remixes it, adds a sick beat and Hoodie's rhymes. REPEAT IT, CRANK IT, CRUISE IT

Jefferson is flyyyy

I was searching http://dirtymexicanlemonade.com/ and I found a post about Jefferson. Every song posted has a great beat, witty rhymes, overall an awesome sound. I only see Jefferson getting bigger. Let's hope he comes to Lehigh so I can see him live. "Thrill Of It"  may sound familiar because it's "Walking On A Dream" by Empire Sun. My personal favorite is "She's Got Her Ways", it's got a calm and smooth sound, but still has some rhymes; it gives listeners the best of both worlds (Hannah Montana joke). Check him out.

Happiness Remix!!!

It took me a few minutes to search for the prefect remix of "Happiness" by Alexis Jordan. I stumbled upon some doozies, but finally found the golden ticket. Sadly it ends a little too short, but the substance is there, and it remixes the chorus perfectly. Thank you Wideboys Radio Edit, I feel happier already!

Uk Charts 11/7- 11/13

#3 ”Happiness” by Alexis Jordan I like how calm this song is, but I think this song would be a world phenomenon remixed. REPEAT IT, REMIX IT

#11 “Check It Out” by will.i.am Nicki Minaj this is one of my favorite songs. I have gotten past their bizarre VMA performance and listen to the song all the time. REPEAT IT, CRANK IT, CRUISE IT

#20 “One In A Million” by Ne-Yo Love the song. Love Ne-Yo. Love the video. LOVE IT

Monday, November 15, 2010

Billboard Charts 11/6

This week was all about Taylor Swift, it was really hard to get through, not because her music is bad, but because it was a lot of the same sound. Her album is number one for a reason.

#1 “We R Who We R” by Ke$ha. YAY! Ke$ha. First week on the charts and your song is number one. Very impressive, but with a song like “We R Who We R”, it’s really no surprise everyone likes it. REPEAT IT, CRANK IT.

#17 “Sparks Fly” by Taylor Swift I can’t believe of ALL the songs Taylor Swift has on the charts this is the highest ranking one. The song is a bit boring. PONDER IT

#27 “Innocent” by Taylor Swift is dedicated to Kanye West. We know they aren’t friends post the whole VMA debacle, but writing a song about him? Come on. PONDER IT

#33 “Yeah 3x” by Chris Brown. I feel guilty saying this, but I really like this song. It’s been on my party play list for a couple weeks now, and I’m still not sick of it. Not to mention, the dancing in this video is phenomenal If only Chris Brown hadn’t gone crazy on Rihanna, then I could play this song all day long without a care in the world. REPEAT IT (on a low, inconspicuous, volume)

#41 “The Story Of Us” by Taylor Swift reminds me of Kids Bop or maybe a Disney Channel song. I do like that it doesn’t follow the same structure of her other hits. I like it, and it’s growing on me. PONDER IT, KIDS BOP IT

#54 “Dear John” by Taylor Swift are you really going to publicize every brief relation you have musically? This song drags on wayyyyyy toooooo slowwwlllyyyy. If I’m depressed over boy at some point, I might think about playing this song, but I think she could do slow songs better. CRY IT

#56 “Better Than Revenge” by Taylor Swift. Wow girlfriend with blonde curls is angry. You do not want to cross this once innocent sweet heart. I like it because it’s so different, and the lyrics are unexpected. REPEAT IT, GET REVENGE WHILE PLAYING IT

#63 “Haunted” by Taylor Swift. With each Taylor Swift song (and clearly this week there are so many), I’m constantly surprised. This sounds a little Paramore-ish. Her sound has definitely matured. SURPRISED BY IT

#71 “Last Kiss” by Taylor Swift Clearly she’s really trying to branch out, but I’m not sure if she should really explore sad songs. I want to like it, but I’m having some trouble. PONDER IT

#72 “I Won’t Let Go” by Rascal Flatts Country

#75 “Enchanted” by Taylor Swift I really hope she does a music video for this one. I have a good feeling about it. VIDEO IT

#77 “Mr. Rager” by Kid Cudi is nothing less than I would expect of Kid Cudi. The song has a very dream-like sound. CRUISE IT

#84 “Never Grow Up” by Taylor Swift makes me wonder who she wrote this for? Her future children? Well whoever it’s very endearing. I’m scared to play this for my mom, for fear she will burst into tears. CRY IT

#85 “Long Live” by Taylor Swift this is the last Taylor Swift song I had to listen to, and I’m a little burnt out. However, I do think this is my favorite of the slow songs. CRY IT

#89 “Time Warp” by The Glee Cast I only know one song from Rocky Horror Picture show, but if there was one song to know, it would obviously be this song. What a great Halloween episode. WARP IT

#97 “One In A Million” by Ne-Yo is definitely my favorite video of the week. Ne-Yo tends to do theatrical videos, and this song and dance is entertaining, and lucky for your ears, it’s a good song. Ne-Yo is one in a million. CRUISE IT, REPEAT IT

#100 “Someone Else Calling You” by Luke Bryan Country

"The Show Goes On" by Lupe Fiasco

You may recognize Modest Mouse's "Float On" in background of the song. Lupe Fiasco, like many artists before him, took what was already a great song, and put his own personal touch on it, and boy am I happy he did. "The Show Goes On" has a great foundation from it's Modest Mouse roots, and the typical smooth sound we have all come to love and expect from Mr. Fiasco (who's sound is very put together considering his last name). REPEAT IT, CRUISE IT.

Obviously The Best Scene

"Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry is redone by Darren Criss, and I have to say it gives the new Mrs. Brand a run for her money. REPEAT IT (over and over and over and over)

Live Blogging Glee 11/9/10

eeing as Glee songs have been dominating the Billboard Music Charts every week, it only seemed right that I live blog this week's episode.

9:00 What an awesome episode. There were make outs, and good lessons galore, not to mention the songs were well chosen!
8:58 “Stop In The Name of Love” and “Free Your Mind” mash up. I don’t know who I liked better, boys or girls? It’s a toss-up.
8:56 Kurt, be strong!
8:55 New alliance of Artie and Puck? I’m a fan.
8:51 Wait what!? Will just kissed beast… it was kind of sweet, wait, that was really sweet.
8:50 Glee is getting really emotional. Beast is the best (New chant 2)
8:48 This new guy better stick around. Kurt needs a friend.
8:47 I CARE PUCK!
8:45 “Bring back beast!” New chant?
8:40 WHAT!? The bully is gay? Well, it makes sense. Way to go Kurt for standing up for himself. Don’t tolerate bullying!
8:38 Sue’s evil laugh, definitely natural, but I’m really upset Beast quit. Shue bring her back!
8:36 “Livin on a Prayer” and “Start Me Up” in leather pants. Nice one girls, this is definitely better than their last all girl performance of “Halo” and “Walking on Sunshine”
8:35 Did Santana really just say Puck should be the next president? Dine and dash, Puck don’t do it. Artie is such a good guy
8:28 The beast is such a nice lady, intimidating, but very nice. I’m happy she’s on the show. I feel bad that she’s always having a hard time.
8:27 ”Prejudice is just ignorance”. Something to take away from this episode
8:24 I like the message Glee is sending. Embrace everyone regardless of sexual orientation.
8:19 Beast is taking over.
8:17 I LOVE THE WARBLERS. “This is the best song this season of Glee”, from my roommate.
8:16 “Teenage Dream” Kurt’s new love is melting my heart! This is definitely Kurt’s Dream. The Warblers are awesome, watch out New Directions.
8:15 Is Kurt transferring? NO!
8:13 Artie ‘s sweater reminds me of Bill Cosby, but his voice definitely doesn’t
8:12 Puck is whipping out the guitar. Only awesomeness can ensue. “One Love”, didn’t expect that from Puck.
8:11 “She-Hulk” and staring at wounds. Missed you Sue
8:07 First commercial and no songs have beensung yet? Come on Glee!
8:05 HAHHAH “Baby-out-with-the-bathwater” joke. I love Britney
8:04 No kosher meals in Juvie?
8:03 Awww poor Kurt, kid can’t catch a break. If he wants to sing with girls he should
8:03 Boys vs. Girls! This is going to be good
8:02 PUCK IS BACK, and looking better than ever I might add
8:01 What a quirky conversation in the bathtub, and the wedgie talk…WHAT?!

Uk Charts 10/31- 9/6

#1 “Promise This” by Cheryl Cole.  It’s official, I now have a girl crush on Cheryl Cole. Not only is the song awesome, but the music video is fun to watch. REPEAT IT, CRANK IT

#2 “Only Girl” by Rihanna. I loved this song the first time I heard and I still love it. REPEAT IT

#13 “Seek Bromance” by Tim Berg I foresee this song being the next “All I Ever wanted” by the Basshunters. CLUB IT

#14 “Defender” by Peter Andre. I try, but I can’t get into it. I do however like the dancing in the video.  PONDER IT

#15 “Runaway” by Devlin is one of those emotional songs. It’s so beautifully sad. CRY IT

#35 “No Love” by Eminem Featuring Lil Wayne is epic. I do have one question, how is Lil Wayne doing these music videos from jail?? He must have been pretty busy shooting videos and recording before he went to the slammer. REPEAT IT

#37 “Stay The Night” by James Blunt. I’m trying to put my biase against James Blunt. It’s a cute song, but I think it should have been released in the summer. PONDER IT

#40 “Falling In Love” by Ironik Featuring Jessica Lowndes is a little lack luster. I keep playing the song hoping I’ll like it, but no such luck. PONDER IT, SKIP IT

Uk Charts 10/24- 10/30

#2 “Heart Vacancy” by The Wanted makes me dismiss any skepticism or doubt I had about boy bands. I love the song, and the heavy beat that starts during the chorus and proceeds. The music video definitely fills the love-song-video-vacancy in my heart. CRY IT, MUSHY LOVE SONG IT

#9 “2012” Jay Sean Featuring Nicki Minaj is a little overrated. I like it, but by no means am I fan. Let’s  hope it’s not on the charts next week. DEMOTE IT

#10  “Best Behaviour: N-Dubz. Oh the hard life of a pop star. Being famous is sooooo hard for your love life. I REALLY feel bad for you. All joking aside, it’s a good song. WAAA TO IT

#11“Just A Dream” by Nelly introduces listeners to a whole new side of Nelly, and I have to say I like his sentimental side. Nelly, when you were gone it was a nightmare. Your return is a dream come true. REPEAT IT

#13 ”My Wicked Heart” by Diana Vickers involves a lot of whooping, but the song delivers. WHOOP THERE IT IS! REPEAT IT

#30 “Mine” by Taylor Swift is the same song as every other Taylor Swift with a slightly adjusted guitar chord. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. I may hate on it, but I discovered myself humming it. HUM IT

"The Kids" B.o.B. Featuring Janelle Monae

Vampire Weekend's Kids Don't Stand A Chance, is a great song on it's own. What's great about B.o.B.'s version is that it sounds enough like the original for recognition, but is different enough to keep the attention Vampire Weekend fan like myself. CRUISE IT, REPEAT IT Check it out.

Billboard Charts 10/30

#6 “Back to December” by Taylor Swift. What can I say, it’s a typical Taylor Swift song, but without the happy ending. Some say it’s about Taylor Lautner, but I’d rather not picture her with him, he may be young, but I’ve got a little crush on him. CRY IT

#27 “Lucky” by the Glee Cast is obviously from the Britney episode. Enough said. CRUISE IT

#41 “River Deep, Mountain Wide” by the Glee Cast is performed by the two fiercest girls in the Glee Club, clearly it’s awesome. REPEAT IT

#48 “Happy Days are Here Again/… “ by the Glee Cast gives me the chills everytime I listen. CRUISE IT

#50 “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by the Glee Cast isn’t one of my favorites. It’s catchy, but a little to Kids Bop for me. PONDER IT

#54 “Move That Body” by Nelly Featuring T-Pain and Akon makes me move my bodddaaayyyy. Let’s take a moment to toast to Nelly’s return. CRANK IT

#80 “Little Miss” by Sugarland country song.

#87 “Sing!” by the Glee Cast is cute when you can watch the episode, but not great to listen to without the accompanying visual. SKIP IT

#94 “Le Jazz Hot” by the Glee Cast is great when Julie Andrews performed it, and just as great on Glee. CRUISE IT

#100 “This Ain’t No Love Song” by Trace Adkins country song.

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

"We R Who We R" by KE$HA!

Everyone hates on Ke$ha, and sometimes the criticisms are justified, the girl is crazy. Hate on her all you want, but she puts out some catchy beats. "We R Who We R", aside from showing Ke$ha is a lazy speller,  is another great song from this party girl. REPEAT IT,  CRANK IT, BE WHO YOU ARE TO IT

Thursday, October 21, 2010

UK Charts 10/17- 10/23

#3 “Barbra Streisand” by Duck Sauce has a great beat, and don’t get me wrong, I’m fond of Barbra Streisand, but the parody is great. The video is fun to watch and features some great cameos. REPEAT IT, CRANK IT

#6 “Ambition” by Joe McElderry is a feel good jam. I like how the dance, it has a bollywood feel where people break out in moves in the street. CRUISE IT

#12 “Broken Arrow” by Pixie Lott is one for the girls. It’s not my favorite Pixie Lott song, nothing beat  “Boys and Girls”. CRY IT

#17 “Hollywood” by Michael Buble has a great music video, but I would expect nothing less from Mr. Buble. He consistently delivers. My favorite part is the beginning when he looks like the Biebs. HOLLYWOOD IT

#26 “Mad World” by Michael Andrews Featuring Gary Jules is puzzling me. Sometimes older songs will appear on the UK Charts. I like the song, I;m just not sure why it’s on the charts this week. If you think you recognize this song it’s because it’s from Donny Darko. CONFUSED BY IT

#29 “Hands” by The Ting Tings is disappointing. I had really hide hopes for the Ting Tings, especially after “That’s Not My Name”. BOOZE IT, SKIP IT

#34 “Magic” by B.o.B. Featuring Rivers Cuomo is a reverse Pond Crosser, new to the UK Charts, but not new to America listenersI love this song, and I’m happy to share it with the Red Coats. REPEAT IT

WHAT?! WHAT?! Whippin Willow!

I have decided this is the week of music videos. The music video gods have smiled up us my friends, correction they have whipped their hair. Willow Smith's video for "Whip My Hair" is everything I wanted and more. Girlfriend whips her hair all over the place, bringing color and fun to a dull world. I wonder what would happen if I whipped my hair with paint in class one day?

Monday, October 18, 2010

It's here!!! The video for Mike Posner's "Please Don't Go"

The video for "Please Don't Go" was released today at 5 p.m. EST. I love Mike Posner, and if he's talking to me (which I'd like to think he is) I will never go. He looks very fly in the video, but I would expect nothing less. Check it out!

Pardon My Cananigans

"Across The World" by Pitbull featuring B.o.B. was the song I should have posted for the song of the week during my trip to Canada. Props to my friend Ali for sharing this song with me, and props to her sister for sharing it with her. CRUISE ITCRANK ITREPEAT ITLOVE IT

Billboard Charts 10/23

Sorry for the lull in music analysis, a trip to our country’s northern neighbor threw me off. But how about (aboot) some new music EH?

#8 “Speak Now” by Taylor Swift is the typical story song that have made Taylor Swift successful. Girl and boy love each other, but aren’t together. Another girl is involved, but she’s all wrong for him and then she sings the chorus from his point of view and they live happily ever after.  Even though all of her songs are essentially the same animal with a different head this song is slightly different from the rest because it doesn’t sound as country, but girlfriend should not be breaking up weddings. CRY IT

#12 “Runaway” by Kanye West Featuring Pusha T should not be on the charts. The title of this song tells you exactly what to do if you hear it playing, so at least they were thinking of their listeners. SKIP IT

#36 “I Want To Hold Your Hand” by the Glee Cast is so beautiful. Makes me tear up every time I listen. Sniffle. CRY IT

#37 “One Of Us” by the Glee Cast is not one of my favorites from the show, but I gotta give it for them.  LIGHT A CANDLE TO IT

#51 “Only The Good Die Young” by the Glee Cast is awesome. Really, the song could not have gotten better, but they always manage to do it. LOVE IT

#51 “Raise Your Glass” by P!nk will never be on my iPod. I am not a P!nk fan in the least. In reference to P!nk I will only raise my glass if we are toasting her retirement. SKIP IT

#60 “Losing My Religion” by the Glee Cast is only interesting to me because my friend told me if you Google search “That’s me”, “in the corner” comes up right away. I know you’re going to check now; it’s true, but go ahead anyway. CRY IT

#65 “Papa Can You Hear Me?” by the Glee Cast is so beautiful. The whole episode was beautiful. I’m getting the chills now listening to it. CRY IT

#73 “Bridge Over Trouble Water” by the Glee Cast.  Is amazing. I’m not a religious person, but this one makes me love gospel music so much more. CLAP TO IT, CRY IT

#74 “I Look To You” by the Glee Cast. WOW, are you tired of hearing about Glee?? I would be, but the songs are so good I don’t really mind. LOVE IT, CRY IT

#82 “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars is great for a summer day, but I didn’t really need to hear Mr. Mars tell me about his day, does that really qualify as a song, or a diary entry? PONDER IT, CRUISE IT

#91 “Like We Used To” by A Rocket To The Moon is sad I guess? PONDER IT

#93 “Stereo Love” by Edward Maya &Vika Jigulina is a pond crosser. YAY UK CHARTS/BILLBOARD CHARTS FUSION!  The song appeared on the UK Charts this summer and has taken some time to cross over, but better late than never. CRANK IT, LOVE IT

#94 “Memories” by David Guetta Featuring Kid Cudi has been one of my favorite songs for a while. If you ever get a chance to see either in concert do it. I hope they collaborate again. CRANK IT, LOVE IT

#98 “Loca” by Shakira Featuring El Cata is in Spanish so I had no idea what this shewolf is singing about, then I listened to the English version. I still can’t really understand anything she’s singing, but I was excited to see Dizzee Rascal, a British rapper on the track. AY AY IT, BOOZE IT

Class Work to Help the Lehigh Community

Today in class utilized "crowdsourcing" and we made a map of sex offenders in the Lehigh Valley. We divided up our search giving everyone one or two zip codes in the Lehigh Valley. You can put your address into the map and see if there are sex offenders near you. If you are seeking any further information you can visit the Pennsylvania  State Police website and search by zip code. Safety first!

Mike Posner Never Lets Me Down

"Cheated" by Mike Posner is the best revenge anyone has ever gotten. Luckily for listeners the song is one of those songs everyone will sing along to. Unlucky for Caroline Stevens (bet you wished you hadn't cheated now) this is one of those songs everyone will sing along to, but seeing as I am not Caroline Stevens, nor do I know anyone with that name, this is my song of the week. I LOVE THIS SONG. REPEAT IT, CRANK IT, GET REVENGE WITH IT

UK Charts 10/2- 10/9

#1 “Written in the Stars” by Tinie Tempah ft. Eric Turner definitely deserves to be on the charts, but I’m not sure if it deserves the coveted number one.  PONDER IT

#3 “Let The Sun Shine” Labrinth is going on my ipod. I was skeptical initially, but now I feel it’s a great song to drive to, drink to, and get ready to. REPEAT IT, CRANK IT, CRUISE IT

#12 “Get Outta My Way” by Kylie Minogue sounds like every other Kylie Minogue song. I love her, but come on girlfriend, give me a song with a little more substance. Get Outta My Way is a sassy statement, but a boring song. PONDER IT (for a while) then SKIP IT

#15 "Pack Up" by Eliza Doolittle is not a new song this week, but it's a song I keep listening to week after week. She's got a great sound. Unfortunately I cannot embed the music video, but here's the audio. REPEAT IT, CRUISE IT

#23 Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves) The Wombats is my favorite song this week. I love the video, which showcases the crazy lifestyle of rockstars. It’s awesome to listen to. I really couldn’t say enough compliments. REPEAT IT,  CRANK IT

#26 “This Little Light” by LZ7 sounds like it might be British Christian rock. The ending with a little kid singing is sweet, but there are no other redeeming qualities for this song.I hope God doesn’t spite with a SKIP IT

#31 “In The Army Now (2010)” by Status Quo is not for me. I don’t know what else to say. It definitely might be a song my dad listens to when he works out. BOOZE IT? SKIP IT

#36 “Ill Behaviour” by Danny Byrd may cause seizures, no joke.  I do like some techno every once in a while. BOOZE IT(crazy) RAVE IT

#39 “(Still A) Weirdo by KT Tunstall is no “Suddenly I See”. I didn’t think you were a weirdo before, but I guess you are. Weirdo maybe, but good song, yes.  Great for a rainy day. CRUISE IT

Billboard Hot 100 10/9

Glee fans unite, this week on the Billboard Charts is dominated by your favorite show.

#21 “Empire State Of Mind” by the Glee Cast totally revitalized this song. For a while there it was really overplayed, but this version made me appreciate the song. I wasn’t sure this was the best song to start the season with for Glee, but maybe I’m sure New Yorkers would beg to differ. CRUISE IT

#23 “Telephone” by the Glee Cast is awesome. I love the original song. “Just a second it’s my favorite song they (in this case Glee) gonna play” I love Gaga. I love Beyonce. I love Charice. I love Lea.  PHONE IT, LOVE IT, CRANK IT

#28 "Billionaire" by the Glee Cast is better than the original. I have never liked the original so anything could have fixed this song. My Nana singing this song would be better than the original, she’s 86, but obviously Glee did it better than she would. CRUISE IT

#38 "Listen" by the Glee Cast is obviously wonderful because Charice is singing. Her voice is so beautiful. Bring Charice back for more episodes! CRY IT

#51 "What I Did For Love" by the Glee Cast. I love Glee, but I don’t love this song. For the sake of my dedication to the show, PONDER IT

#62 "Angel" by Akon is typical Akon. Easy to listen to and hang out to. BOOZE IT

#84 "Stutter" by Maroon 5 is exactly what I would expect from Maroon 5. I love this band, and I think they have a very distinctive sound. In some ways I wish they would switch things up, but in general I rate “Stutter” C-C-CRUISE IT

#90 "Shake" by Jesse McCartney is what every girl wants to hear a boy say about her. I should acknowledge that my judgement might be impaired by my crush on Mr. McCartney, but the song is catchy. CRANK IT, BOOZE IT, REPEAR IT, (Jesse McCartney I LOVE YOU IT)

#91 "Loving You No More" by Diddy-Dirty Money Featuring Drake is a great song to hang to. It’s a got a smooth beat and laid back vibe. CRUISE IT

#94 "Please Don't Go" by Mike Posner has been one of my favorites songs for the past few months. This is one of those songs I'm proud to say I liked way before it's Billboard Charts days (pat myself on the back). I'm such a Mike Posner fan (even more of Mike Posner fan than a Jesse McCartney fan), and it's awesome to see him become successful. I think Samantha M. Posner has a nice ring to it. REPEAR IT, CRANK IT, MARRY IT.

Jersey Shore does We No Speak Americano

As if this song couldn't get any better...

OOOOHHH GIRL, NO YOU DIDN'T

Willow Smith has a great party song for the ladies and she isn't even ten years old yet. Check out how fly this girl is, and how fly shorty's hairstyle is. I will definitely be flipping my hair to this song. YEA, GET IT GIRL!!!! REPEAT IT, CRANK IT, BOOZE IT, essentially LIVE IT.

Uk Charts 9/26- 10/2

#1 “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars is a double wammie; number one and new to the charts. It’s a sweet song for the ladies. REPEAT IT

#7 “Focus” by Emma’s Imagination is boring. I tried to like it. I played it for my friends just to double check that it wasn’t just me who didn’t like—it wasn’t just me. SKIP IT

#10 “I’m In Love” (I wanna do it) by Alex Guadino has a great beat. I’m going “facebook” on this with a LIKE IT, BOOZE IT, and CRANK IT (occasionally).

#13 “Heartbeat” by Enrique Iglesias featuring Nicole Scherzinger will be great a remix. It’s sensual, but I would expect nothing less of these two hot artists. I’m making my own rating again with a REMIX IT.

#17 “Pyramid” by Charice has been featured on American radios. I love the song, especially the version featuring Iyaz. Charice is awesome, not to mention she was on Glee last week. REPEAT IT

#21 “The Bike Song” Mark Ronson & The Business Intl has such an amusing music video. It’s a quirky song and video. CRUISE IT

#21”Higher” by The Saturdays featuring Flo Rida is pretty girly. I think Flo Rida’s Miami style will bring this song to the mainstream. REPEAT IT, CRANK IT (for the girls).

#38 “The Way We’re Made” (Made in England) by Missing Andy is very British. I can’t see it crossing the pond to America, but if you go into a UK pub I have a feeling this would be playing. OLD CHAP IT

Billboard Hot 100 10/2

Even if you don’t listen to a radio, there’s still a chance you’re familiar with popular American songs, you may hear them at parties, sporting events, maybe even the grocery store. So, I’ve decided I will not rate the number song for the Billboard Hot 100 because as a reader you probably already know the song and have an opinion about. I will however, write my say about the Top Ten and listen to the new songs and give you a rating. It’s all about helping my fellow listeners.

I would like to take the time now to officially say that I do not like country (Taylor Swift does not count a country artist). To be fair, I will not rate country songs. I will mention them if they debuted this week, but that’s all I write about them.

The charts for October 2 have been posted my friends and “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars has hit number #1. I wonder if Mr. Mars recent run-in with the law has anything do with this? You know the saying, any publicity is good publicity. My favorite song in the Top Ten is “Only Girl” by Rhianna. Rhi Rhi says everything a girl wishes she could say, but doesn’t because she doesn’t want to seem demanding.

#37 “Radioactive” by Kings of Leon is what I like to call easy listening. Upon the first time hearing it I liked it, but the lyrics lulled me into a daze and I zoned out.  CRUISE IT

#74 “Can’t Be Friends” by Trey Songz is a whole lot of “soulful” wining. WAAAA. Only Usher does that well Mr. Songz. SKIP IT

#82 “Put You In A Song” by Keith Urban

#83 “We No Speak Americano” by Yolanda Be Cool & Dcup STARTED IT’S MUSCIAL CHART LIFE ON THE UK POP CHARTS BEFORE IT CROSSED THE POND TO THE BILLBOARD CHARTS! This is why I blog party people. This song has a great beat, and Europeans love it. It’s on the music charts in Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, and Czech Republic, need I go on? I fell in love right away, but my friends were skeptics until they heard it at the bar. So We No Speak Americano earns REPEAT IT and CRANK IT and BOOZE IT (all at the same time if you prefer)

#91 “All I Want Is You” by Miguel featuring J. Cole has a smooth beat.  I’m not sure if this song will take off and skyrocket at any point, but I give it a solid CRUISE IT.

#94 “Turn On The Radio by Reba

#96 “ Waiting For The End” by Linkin Park has atypical sound from Linkin Park’s previous songs, but I still like it. The unexpectedness is refreshing.  When I listened to the live version the beginning sounded a bit more like what I would expect, nonetheless, the song is great. Welcome back Linkin Park, your fans (my housemate Cristina) missed you. CRUISE IT

#97 “Smoke A Little Smoke” by Eric Church

#100 “Black And Yellow” Wiz Khalife is a song I foresee rising  to at least Top Fifty. The song is fly, easy to sing (“Black and Yellow, Black and Yellow, Black and Yellow, Black and Yellow,” is half of the chorus). I definitely think you’re going to hear this on college campuses. CRANK IT and BOOZE IT.

UK Charts 9/19- 9/25

As promised here’s your musical update for the UK Charts.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/singles

I’ve decided I will always criticize the number one song. From there I will rate new songs to the charts and, if it suits me, I will mention any interesting songs that peaked my interest.

I’ve created a ranking system.
  • SKIP IT, is pretty straightforward.
  • REPEAT IT, means I love it and will continuously play it.
  • BOOZE IT, means I might not like it now, but maybe if they play it at the bar, and I’ve had a few drinks, I’ll dance to it.
  • CRANK IT, means this song is great to party to.
  • CRUISE IT, is the rating for a song that’s great to hang out and listen to.
  • PONDER IT is for songs that I like, but don’t love, and maybe after some pondering I might have stronger feelings.
  • CRY IT is the rating for the songs that pull at your heartstrings and make you tear up
WARNING: I will make up some ratings for certain songs, but don't fret I will explain them.

#1 "Start Without You", by Alexandra Burke featuring Laza Morgan, hangs on to number for the second week in a row, although I can’t imagine why. The song is ok, but definitely not worthy of the coveted number one spot. The song sounds a little too beginning of summer, and a little too Kids Bop.  Here’s hoping the charts start without you next week. My rating, BOOZE IT like once, but probably SKIP IT.

#5 "Please Don’t Let Me Go" by Olly Murs was number one 2 weeks ago, and I have spot for this tune in my heart. I’m not a big Jason Mraz fan, post the “I’m Yours” overplay, but this has a similar vibe in a good way. I highly recommend it with a, REPEAT IT and CRUISE IT.

#10 "Impossible" by Shontelle is new to the charts, but not to American radios. I love this song.  This is one of those songs that you play in your car and belt out at the top of your lungs (girls out there, you know) It’s so girly, that in this case I have created a special ranking which won’t be used often, SING  IT (GURRRLFRIEND).

#27 "Last Ones Standing" by Example is no "Kickstarts" (also by Example, and is #33). However, "Kickstarts" is a hard act to follow because not only is it a great song, but it’s got an engaging video. I wasn’t really captivated by "Last Ones Standing" video and maybe that’s why I’m rating "Last Ones Standing" with a PONDER IT.

#28 "(It’s Not War) Just the End of Love" by Manic Street Preachers reminds me of a ballad in a musical. I don’t hate, but I’m not especially drawn to it so I’m giving this song a PONDER IT.

#30 "Misery" by Maroon 5 is also new to the UK charts, but familiar to American pop listeners. I have been and always will be a fan of Maroon 5. Their songs are about bad break ups and in some cases not wishing the other person the best. Call me bitter, but I can identify, and I know I’m not the only one. CRUISE IT.

#35 "The Man Who Can’t be Moved" by The Script is played on American stations, but definitely not as much as The Script's "Breakeven". I believe this song is just as beautiful as "Breakeven", and just as catchy. I hope it soars to a higher ranking next week. CRY IT and REPEAT IT.

#36 "Sing for the Deaf" by Missing Andy is going to be one of those songs you chant.  With a chorus like “We sing for the deaf, and we dress for the blind” I feel like it might be a song for a human rights campaign. (BATTLE) CRY IT.

#37 "Enter the Ninja" by Die Antwoord has to be a joke. I don’t know if it’s the song or the music video that makes me uncomfortable, but I know together it’s both. SKIP IT (and HIDE FROM IT)

#40 "So Big" by Iyaz is a music video and song combo that melted my heart (unlike the freak show at #37, which I will forever be scarred by). If you’re a fan of 'Secret Life of the American Teenager' this video is for you. But, don’t think this video makes the song, the song would be just as lovely with one of those fan photo montages YouTube users are so fond of making.  REPEAT IT and CRUISE IT.

Tune in soon for updates about the Billboard Charts and RCRDLBL.

Pond Crosser

Have you ever been the first person in your group of friends to discover a song? You feel so tapped in, so ahead of the game, and every time your friends hear the song, they think of you. The feeling of glory is awesome, and I thrive on it. So, when it came time for me to write a blog for my journalism class I figured I would bring my song sharing to people outside of my group of friends.

So where do I find my songs? I primarily use the UK pop charts. The British may be known for horrible food, but I have to give it to them on the music front. Obviously the charts feature some American songs, but many of the songs that blow up the Billboard charts are old news on the UK charts (and vice versa). They’re updated every Sunday, just like the Billboard Charts in the US, which I also use to find songs.

There’s one other place I use to find music,RCRDLBL.com. I hadn’t really considered it part of my main musical repertoire until the day that one song I had downloaded from the site appeared on the UK charts (Gold Dust by. You can only imagine how ecstatic I was, I had found a song before the UK charts. I’m pretty sure that will only happen once in my life. Anyway, I hadn’t really connected RCRDLBL to any of the music charts because it features new artists, while the charts usually feature new songs be established artists, but naturally there’s some overlap, which I should have foreseen. The great thing about RCRDLBL.com is that the site features remixes, and often times those remixes are better than the original song. Oh, and did I mention RCRDLBL let’s you download songs from their website.

So here’s the plan for my blog. I’ll go through the UK Top 40 and listen to the new songs. Then, I’ll give readers a write-up of the ones I think are the best, but keep in mind it’s my opinion, so check them out yourself too. I’ll also go through the Billboard Hot 100, just to scan what’s new. I’ll embed artists videos if I think they’re in anyway awesome (sometimes the video can make or break the song). While I’m scanning rcrdlbl.com I’ll link to artist’s pages, especially if the artist is more well known and something interesting is posted on the website.

Tomorrow I’ll post the new songs from the UK charts, but tonight I want to give a little tutorial to ease your search through the UK charts. As I said the charts are updated every Sunday. The status of a song is posted with a symbol on the left side of each song. Yellow stars represent new songs, gray dashes mean the song is in the same ranking as the week before, red arrows down mean the song has moved down on the charts, while blue arrows mean the song has moved up from last week. Also, underneath the artists and name of the song additional information about how much the song has moved since the previous and how many weeks the song has been on the charts is featured.

So, tune in tomorrow for your musical update.
